The solar-powered aircraft took off at 5:36 AM CET, when the weather around the aerodrome was at its calmest, with pilot Markus Scherdel at the controls. The aircraft flew for two hours and 17 minutes, reaching an altitude of 1,670 m (5,500 ft) and a ground speed of 55.6 km/h (30 kt).

The Plains, Va. – Students from Creekview High School of Canton, Ga. outperformed hundreds of their peers from across the country Saturday to earn first place at the twelfth annual Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). Champions Amanda Semler, 18; Andrew White, 16; Nick Dimos, 16; Austin Bralick, 16; and Bailey Robertson, 15; bested more than 700 other teams representing 48 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands to earn the national title.
MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (May 4, 2014) — Four Fremont teens took to the sky Saturday before their prom night. Derk Smith said he and three friends went sightseeing for about 40 minutes before landing back at the Muskegon County Airport and heading to prom at the Fruitport Golf & Banquet Center, 6334 Harvey St. in Muskegon.
McKinney Air Center, whose operations the city took over in November, has earned top recognition in the 2014 Pilots’ Choice Awards for FltPlan.com, an online service for general and corporate aviation. McKinney National Airport’s air traffic control tower was also named No. 1 in the Pilots’ Choice Awards.
Prospects are looking up for Dallas Executive Airport. The city’s long-languishing airport will become the new home of the Commemorative Air Force.
Google has acquired drone maker Titan Aerospace, the Wall Street Journal reports. Titan is a New Mexico-based company that makes high-flying solar powered drones. There's no word on the price Google paid, but Facebook had been in talks to acquire the company earlier this year for a reported $60 million. Presumably, Google paid more than that to keep it away from Facebook.
